Research workshop on Communication for Development begins

The inaugural ceremony of a three-day Research Workshop on Communication for Development was held at hotel Amari Dhaka on 12 August 2018.  University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh and United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) jointly are organizing the workshop to conduct research on child rights in higher educational institutions of Bangladesh.

UGC Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan graced the function as the Chief Guest. Ms. Sheema Sen Gupta, Deputy Country Representative, UNICEF, Bangladesh, spoke on the occasion as the Special Guest. 

Ms. Neha Kapil, C4D Section Chief, UNICEF, Bangladesh and Dr. Md. Fakhrul Islam, Additional Director, ICC, UGC, among others, spoke. Academics from Ohio University, 11 public and private universities of Bangladesh, officials from UGC and UNICEF, among others were present. 

UGC Chairman said the workshop will play a significant role in designing curriculum and conducting participatory research in C4D.

He said children are the most precious resources of Bangladesh. “Bangladesh has a large number of young populations. We must take care of them. Because they are the change maker of our country", he added.

The UGC Chairman also said “We have to ensure basic education to improve the livelihood of the marginalized children. We need to be careful about other rights of the children.”

He thanked UNICEF for arranging the time-befitting workshop for the children of Bangladesh.

Ms. Sheema Sen Gupta said Bangladesh government is very committed to attain SDG's target to establish child-right. She also said collaboration with UGC is very important to address child rights in Bangladesh.
