President to hand over UGC Gold Medal among 35 academics tomorrow

Honorable President of the People's Republic of Bangladesh Mr. Md. Abdul Hamid will hand over the prestigious ‘UGC Gold Medal’ among 35 renowned university teachers as the Chief Guest on 11 September 2018.

The 35 teachers from different public and private universities will get UGC Gold Medal for their outstanding contribution to the fundamental research and publications on higher education.

Among them, 18 teachers will get award for the year 2016 and 17 teachers for 2017. Each of the selected teachers will get Tk 50, 000 for their book and Tk 30,000 for their article as honorium including the certificate and Gold Medal.

The ceremony will be held at Pan Pacific Sonargaon Hotel in Dhaka. University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan will preside over the ceremony. UGC Member Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum will deliver the address of welcome.

Education Minister Mr. Nurul Islam Nahid, MP and Secretary of Secondary and Higher Education Division, Ministry of Education Md. Sohorab Hossain will be present as the Special Guests. Besides, National Professors, UGC Members, its Secretary, VC’s from public and private universities, noted educationists, will also be present.

Earlier in August 2018, UGC changed the name of the UGC Award as UGC Gold Medal. The Commission introduced UGC Award (now UGC Gold Medal) in 1980 to encourage fundamental research and publications of university teachers.
