Sri Lankan High Commissioner calls on UGC Chairman

A two-member Sri Lankan delegation led by H. E. Crisanthe De Silva, High Commissioner of Sri Lankan in Dhaka, called on University Grants Commission (UGC) of Bangladesh Chairman Professor Abdul Mannan on 10 September at UGC Bhaban.

The delegation discussed about the matters related to collecting additional fees for internship programme from the Sri Lankan Medical students who graduated from the University of Science and Technology Chittagong (USTC).

Professor Mannan assured the Sri Lankan High Commissioner of resolving the problems immediately and asked USTC authority to provide the original certificates to the Sri Lankan students by 20 September, this year. “Otherwise, UGC will issue a public notice asking the neighbouring countries not to send their students in USTC for medical education,” he warned.

Crisanthe De Silva said the medical education imparted by Bangladeshi educational institutions is in high esteem in Sri Lanka. He stressed the need for fostering bilateral relationships between Bangladesh and Sri Lanka along with other SAARC countries.

Professor Dr. Dil Afroza Begum, Professor Dr. Md. Akhtar Hossain, Professor Dr. M. Shah Nowaz Ali, Members, UGC; Professor Dr. Mohammad Ismail Khan, Vice-Chancellor, Chittagong Medical University, Professor Dr. Probhat Chandra Barua, Vice-Chancellor, USTC, Dr. Md. Khaled, Secretary, UGC, representatives from the Ministry of Health, Ministry of Education, Ministry of Foreign Affairs, BMDC, high officials from UGC and USTC were present in the meeting.
